The Billion Pound Build is a UK skill-based competition: pitch what you'd build, then — if selected as a finalist — build it in 8 weeks with Computer as your engine. No — Phase 1 (the pitch) is free to enter and you do not need a Perplexity subscription to submit. If you are selected as one of the up to 20 Phase 2 finalists, Perplexity will provide you with a complimentary 8-week Perplexity Max subscription for the duration of the build phase. No card is required and the subscription does not auto-renew.
Individual entrants must be 18 years of age or older at the date of entry, resident in the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland), and legally permitted to participate in skill-based competitions in their place of residence. Entity entrants must be a company, limited liability partnership, or other legal entity incorporated or registered in the United Kingdom or in another jurisdiction acceptable to the Promoter, with at least one founder or principal who meets the individual-entrant criteria.

Yes, but Computer must be the primary and most important AI in your workflow. Submissions are judged on Computer being the engine of the product and operations — not a one-off helper.

No. The judging panel may award one, two, three, or no prizes at its sole discretion. Perplexity Computer Credits are subject to verification of eligibility, due diligence, a mutually agreed prize agreement, and the Terms and Conditions. The prize is Computer Credits only — no cash alternative. Participants and winners are solely responsible for any tax obligations arising from participation, including any credits awarded or any complimentary Perplexity Max subscription provided. Perplexity does not provide tax advice.
New ventures welcome. Existing companies can apply with a new Computer-built product or initiative created during the competition window.
By entering, you grant Perplexity a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use your name, project name, project description, and any screenshots, recordings, or excerpts you submit, solely for the purpose of administering and judging the Competition and for related promotional content. Any detailed publicity use will be subject to your reasonable approval, as set out in the Terms and Conditions §8. Do not submit information you consider a trade secret. What we collect. Your name, email address, date of birth (to confirm you are 18+), country/region of residence, project pitch responses, optional links to a short video and prior work, and the consent confirmations you tick when you submit.
Why we collect it. To administer the Billion Pound Build competition — verifying eligibility, judging entries, selecting finalists and winners, contacting you about the competition, provisioning the complimentary 8-week Perplexity Max subscription to finalists, and producing post-competition promotional content within the limits set out in the Terms & Conditions. Lawful basis: Article 6(1)(b) UK GDPR (performance of the competition contract you accept by entering) and Article 6(1)(f) (our legitimate interest in running, judging, and promoting the competition).
Who sees your data. The judging panel, Perplexity's competition operations team, and our processors: Typeform (form hosting), Google Workspace (judging spreadsheets and email), and Slack (internal coordination). We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it with sponsors or third parties for their own marketing.
International transfers. Perplexity is based in the United States. Personal data is transferred to the US under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (UK Extension) and, where required, under the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses with the UK Addendum.
How long we keep it. Non-finalist pitches: deleted within 6 months of the competition closing. Finalist and winner records: retained for 6 years after the competition closes, for legal, tax, and audit reasons.
Your rights. Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port, and object to processing of your personal data, and to withdraw any consent you have given.
